Jeremy Roche
Founder and Director of Gain Lawyers

We recently sat down with Jeremy Roche, Founder and Director of Gain Lawyers, to hear his journey in personal injury law and the vision behind starting his own firm. Jeremy spent almost 15 years at Attwood Marshall Lawyers on the Gold Coast, where his drive and dedication saw him quickly become a Partner and led both the Queensland and New South Wales Personal Injury teams until mid-2024.

With over two decades of experience across Queensland and New South Wales, he explained how a strong desire to make a meaningful difference inspired him to create a specialist injury compensation practice focused on people, not just cases.

Gain Lawyers was founded on the belief that injured individuals deserve not only expert legal guidance but also genuine care, support, and advocacy throughout every stage of their recovery.

This conversation explores Jeremy’s story and his approach to reshaping personal injury law,and what sets Gain Lawyers apart.

The Moments That Motivated Jeremy

Jeremy is a Queensland-based personal injury lawyer whose career has been shaped by early exposure to law through his father and more than two decades of hands-on experience in the field. Born in Dalby and raised in Toowoomba, Jeremy grew up in a large family on the Darling Downs, where education and service formed a strong foundation at home. His father Kevin, initially a school headmaster, made a pivotal mid-life career change by undertaking a law degree at the age of 45, later becoming a barrister specialising in personal injury law.

As a teenager, Jeremy spent afternoons and weekends in his father’s chambers observing conferences, mediations and court proceedings, while listening firsthand to the experiences of injured people and their families. This early exposure gave him practical insight long before he qualified, shaping a career grounded in both technical legal expertise and a deep understanding of clients’ needs.

“Gain Your Life Back” Redefining Personal Injury Law

More than a tagline, Gain Lawyers embodies a mission to help clients regain stability, health, and confidence long after their claim is finalised.

I had a burning desire to create a specialist injury compensation firm where I could make a meaningful difference. The tagline ‘Gain your life back’ captures that mission.

After years working across QLD and NSW, Jeremy observed that while many firms strive to do the right thing, “there are areas where execution falls short or processes haven’t been fully considered or taught.”

Drawing on his experience and industry connections he felt compelled to create a firm where injured clients could rely on not only “high-level legal expertise” but also authentic care and support throughout recovery.

Gain Lawyers was built to challenge traditional models by focusing on helping people rebuild their lives, not simply finalise claims.

A Founder’s Take on What Needs to Change

Jeremy’s extensive career provided a rare, inside view of personal injury law at every level, from frontline casework to senior strategic decision-making. Over time, he identified systemic gaps that he believed were compromising client outcomes. “During my career, I noticed practices across the industry that didn’t serve clients as well as they could,” he explains. Recurring issues in communication, support and claim management often left people feeling overlooked during an already vulnerable period.

Motivated to address these shortcomings, Jeremy made the difficult decision to leave a secure senior role to pursue what he describes as “a passion project - a law firm that really looks after injured people and puts their interests first every time.”

Reverse Engineering the Firm from the Client’s Perspective

Rather than replicating traditional legal structures, Gain Lawyers was intentionally designed by analysing the experiences of injured people across the industry. “We reverse engineered the whole system,” Jeremy explains, starting with “all of the common pitfalls across the industry from an injured person’s point of view.”

By speaking with people who had worked with a wide range of law firms, Jeremy and his team identified recurring breakdowns in communication, support and execution, and from these insights Gain Lawyers was built specifically to put the injured person first every time ensuring that legal strategy, client communication and support services align with what clients genuinely need throughout their recovery.

At Gain Lawyers culture is not just an internal value it is the foundation of how the firm operates, and Jeremy instills this ethos by emphasising that “the way people are treated during the course of their claim is what they truly remember,” reinforcing the importance of empathy alongside legal expertise.

Reflecting on the team he has built, Jeremy explains, “I wanted to build a team where every person understands that our role wasn’t just to process claims, but to genuinely support clients through recovery,” and by fostering an environment where staff are empowered to act with compassion and integrity, Gain Lawyers translates culture into tangible client outcomes.

Every process workflow and client interaction is designed with long-term wellbeing in mind ensuring that legal advocacy goes hand-in-hand with personal support, and through this client-first philosophy Gain Lawyers is redefining what excellence in personal injury law looks like demonstrating that true professional rigour is measured not only by results, but by the quality of care delivered throughout the recovery journey.
